Wood controls 50% of Wotnews which represents his first major Internet play since stepping down as CEO of Wotif.com in 2007.

Aimed initially at the Finance, Media and Professional Services sectors, Wotnews promises more extensive Australian reach than conventional search engines. “There is some seriously clever software under the bonnet here”, says Wood. Originally trading as Plugger.com.au the website had garnered a dedicated following through word of mouth referral.

Wood saw the potential, offered to buy into the business and change the name to Wotnews under a licensing agreement with Wotif.com. “This is also something of an experiment for Wotif.com. Lots of business eyeballs opens up some interesting marketing potential”, said Wood.

An Enterprise version of Wotnews will be available for larger, information-intensive organisations. It aggregates internal information with real-time web-based news into a single news and business intelligence stream. “The theme here is to know more by reading less”, says Wood.

“The personalisation tools in Wotnews allow very individual views of what’s going on out there”, he said. As well as delving deeper into business news sources, Wotnews gives news publishers, big and small, an additional distribution platform. “If your news is relevant and credible we’ll make sure it gets to the people who appreciate it most”, says Wood.
