Biota Holdings Limited (Biota) is an Australia-based drug discovery and early stage clinical development company. Biota’s focus is on anti-infectives and has developed a series of candidate drugs aimed at treatment of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) disease, licensed to AstraZeneca and nucleoside analogues designed to treat hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections, licensed to Boehringer Ingelheim. The Company's neuraminidase inhibitor, zanamivir, is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline as Relenza. Its influenza diagnostic developments are marketed by Inverness Medical under the BioStar OIA FLU and BioStar OIA FLU A/B brands. On July 31, 2008, Biota announced the completion of the initial Phase II clinical study of its second generation, influenza treatment, CS-8958, in Japan. On August 11, 2008, the Company announced that its human rhinovirus (HRV) program had commenced initial dosing of its Phase IIa clinical evaluation.
