Portman Limited is engaged in iron ore mining and exploration in Western Australia. It has a 100% interest in the Koolyanobbing iron ore project and a 50% interest in the Cockatoo Island iron ore project. The Koolyanobbing iron ore project consists of three mine sites, Koolyanobbing, Mt Jackson and Windarling. The Koolyanobbing mine site is located 425 kilometers east of Perth, and includes the ore processing facilities for the project. Mt. Jackson and Windarling are located 80 and 100 kilometers north of Koolyanobbing, respectively. Ore shipped, during the year ended December 31, 2007, was 7,474 thousand tons. Cockatoo Island iron ore project is located off the Kimberley Coast of Western Australia, 3,000 kilometres to the north of Perth. In August 2000, Portman commenced production of Cockatoo premium fines ore in a 50/50 joint venture, and sales during 2007 were 1,342 thousand tons.
